That place HAS GOT to be one of the best places I\’ve ever eaten at in my entire life. Back in May, during my 3-day trip when I went to the London IMATS, I also ate a LOT of stuff at a LOT of places. One of them being the Muffin Man Tea Shop, and one of the best decisions of my life.
A little place on Wrights Lane in Kensington that I\’d never heard of before I looked up places in which to have a chill afternoon tea, the Muffin Man Tea Shop is large enough so no one has to wait too long since there is a first floor too but still arranged in such a way that you feel you\’re in a cozy, autumn-feel kind of ambiance.
There are plenty good things to choose from and I had to refrain myself from picking everything from the menu as every single thing sounded amazing. As I was with a companion, we chose to take several things to share, a pot of tea, a lemon drizzle cake, muffins and crumpets and since I believe we\’d already eaten something filling for lunch and were heading towards Mothermash for dinner, I chose not to eat too much to enjoy every single meal of the day.
I have a feeling that the Muffin Man Tea Shop is affordable if you don\’t go every day – obviously, once in London I don\’t think I\’ll be able to afford that great an afternoon tea every week (but who knows, really, what the future holds). The Lemon Drizzle Cake, or, as they told me, just Lemon Cake, was amazing. I love sponge cake and I love cream, and I love lemon so there\’s not much I could have disliked. It was soft, it was tasty and I\’m actually salivating as I\’m writing about it.
Here was the first time I ate crumpets in my life and I absolutely fell in love with them. They\’re like small and dense pancakes and they remind me a lot of the Moroccan pancakes baghrir. They were served hot, all I had to do was put some butter on and let it melt and drip while I was biting in my pancakes… Ugh.
The only problem when you\’re picking everything off a menu is that any place will serve all the warm food at once so if you want to eat something warm, you have to be quick. Fortunately, I do eat quite fast in this kind of situation and I was once again troubled by how amazing even simple muffins were.
I am crazy about butter so you can see just how much I put on them and I loved how crispy on the outside they were, but still soft and chewy on the inside. I think English comfort food is some of the best in the world. I do. And I don\’t know how I will deter myself from going to Wrights Lane every week (huh, day) x
