Maybe someday I\’ll open a food blog ; I love reviewing restaurants and food from all around the world so much ! One of my latest finds is located in Lisbon so if you ever have the chance to travel to Portugal, please make sure you stop at the teeny, tiny Pastéis de Nata shop called Nata De Lisboa.
Nata de Lisboa is located in one of the central streets in Lisbon, Rua Augusta and if you walk by this little shop quickly, you\’ll miss it for sure. But don\’t. Don\’t. Miss. It.
One of the reasons I\’ve traveled to Lisbon back in March was to try out real pastéis de Nata and boy, did I eat my fair share ! Quite everywhere they were sold, I tasted at least one so I ended up trying pastéis de Nata from maybe six places in the end. What\’s interesting is that every place has their own recipe for Pastéis de Nata so you\’ll always find differences and subtleties between one shop and the next.
But the ones from Nata De Lisboa were so good, sooo creamy and the dough so crispy and buttery… I\’d never had anything like that in my entire life and my boyfriend and I even brought back almost fifty to share with our friends at work (the fifty didn\’t make it) – indeed, at this point, there was no doubt they were the best we tasted there. I even thought they were better than the renowned Pastéis de Belem ones.
They make new batches all day long so we were lucky to get the freshest cakes
almost every time we bought some and let me tell you something – when they\’re still warm, they\’re a dream in your mouth and all you want to do is run back to the shop and get another one right away (which we might have done twice or three times – I feel no shame).
You can\’t buy Pastéis de Nata everywhere in France, there are only some specific places that sell them in Paris, Portuguese bakeries and pastries but I have to admit I haven\’t been there to try them out yet – I shall do it soon ! Anyway, if you\’re ever in Lisbon, this is one of my best addresses – one euro per pastel will not set you back much unless you end up buying a whole crazy lot like we did ! 😀
Have you ever tried Pastéis de Nata or any Portuguese specialties, for that matter ? Let me know your favorite places ! x
